How to Apply

All applications to all full-time undergraduate programmes should be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). However, we would be happy to help you with any questions.

If you are currently in school or college, you will be able to submit an application to UCAS via the online application system, Apply. If you are not at school or college, you will be able to apply online through the UCAS website (www.ucas.com). A paper application form is available from UCAS for those that do not have access to the internet. You can call UCAS on 0871 4680468.

Applications should be submitted to UCAS between 1st September 2016 and 15th January 2017. Applications sent to UCAS after the 15th January 2017 deadline may be considered depending upon the availability of places. If you apply after the end of June, you will automatically go into Clearing.

It is possible to apply for up to five courses (choices) on your UCAS form. The fee for applying through UCAS is currently £24.00 for multiple choices or £13.00 for a single choice. If you apply after 30th June, the application fee will be £24.00. Once UCAS has processed your application, you will receive a Personal ID number. Along with your username and password, you can use this to track the progress of your application via UCAS Track.

If you have applied through UCAS and are not holding any offers, or you have changed your mind about the course you have applied for, you may find UCAS Extra useful. This service allows you to apply for courses with vacancies from the end of February until early July.

The institutional UCAS code for the University of Chester is CHSTR C55. The campus code for University Centre Shrewsbury is S and you will need to put this campus code in the ‘Choices’ section of the online application form. Details of the course codes may be found in the UCAS Directory or on the UCAS website at www.ucas.com

Deferred Entry

We are happy to make deferred offers to students wishing to take a gap year prior to starting a degree programme. However, deferrals may be made for a one-year period only.

What qualifications do you need?

Entry requirements may vary slightly from year to year, depending on the subjects you choose. Each course has its own entry requirements, which are shown on the relevant course pages, but our general entry policy includes:

  • a good level of literacy and numeracy (GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English Language or suitable equivalent)
  • experience or interest relevant to the course(s) for which you have applied
  • recognition of applications from candidates mixing their modes of study (e.g. mixes of A Level, BTEC and OCR qualifications)
  • recognition of points and grades achieved in A Level General Studies and a pass in the Welsh Baccalaureate (core).

Applying for a Foundation Year

All applications must be made through UCAS. You will need to apply for your chosen subject with a Foundation Year using the codes listed on the UCAS website, e.g. Business Management (including a Foundation Year).

Your Foundation Year will be taught at the University of Chester, Gateway House, Chester, and subsequent years of study (Levels 4, 5 and 6) will be based at University Centre Shrewsbury.

If you completed your qualifications some time ago and are not sure whether they are appropriate for your chosen subject(s) of study, please contact Undergraduate Admissions at admissions@ucshrewsbury.ac.uk or on 01244 511000, and they will talk through your options with you.
