Do you sometimes find the featherweight lightness of your wallet can make you frown? Well, I’m hoping in this blog to turn that frown upside down!

  1. O2 priority app has many offers, one of the best being for when you’re craving a coffee. Cafe Nero has a free hot drink with priority most Tuesday afternoons but keep an eye out as they sometimes pop offers on other days too! If you are not an O2 customer, you can buy a sim and choose classic pay-as-you-go and get the O2 app without the expense of a contract.
  2. If you fancy a sandwich to go with that, try popping along to shops towards the end of the day before closing. I found Marks & Spencer reduce their selection of sandwiches and wraps to 25p but you need to be quick. They reduce them at about 4pm but then cut the price again at around 5pm, but then they go really quickly! If you really fancy treating yourself, I found a Waitrose chicken & mayo sandwich at 5.30pm reduced to 79p!
  3. Still on the subject of food glorious food, places such as Marks & Spencer, Boots, Tesco and Greggs have meal deals where you can buy a sandwich, snack and a drink for a reduced rate. Most are around £3. Until October 31st you can claim a free sausage or vegan roll at Greggs just by showing the voucher on your Student Beans app! Spooktacular! Get that one while it lasts but don’t worry if you miss out though as Greggs regularly have a meal deal offer. If you use your Student Beans app, you can often have a free sausage roll or for veggies like myself, a free vegan roll OR sweet treat or snack pack!
  4. Also, if you order a ‘extra value wrap meal' at McDonald’s you can get a free cheeseburger, mayo chicken or a Mcflurry original also with your Student Beans app!
  5. That reminds me, the Unidays and Student Beans apps have many great offers so they’re definitely worth downloading! If you fancy a night on the town, a tasty offer on Student Beans is the 2 Burger Meals for £10 at Harvester right next door to Cineworld, so you can pop for a burger before seeing a movie!
  6. If you sign up to Compare The Market and buy the cheapest thing (one day travel insurance works out between around £1 and £5) then you can sign up to the Meerkat Movies app. This will not only give you the 2 for 1 Movies (available to use at Cineworld but also at the The Old Market Hall cinema in the square) but also, if you happen to have a Tuesday or Wednesday off uni, two of you could go in the day as student Meerkats for £7. The Meerkat app now also gives you 2 for 1 meals at many places around Shrewsbury Sunday to Thursday (…simples!)
  7. Obviously before you go painting the town red (though blue and amber are Shrewsbury Town’s F.C colours!), you will want to be looking your best! At Shrewsbury College, London road campus, Evolve Hair & Beauty training academy salon offer treatments with their trainees at a reduced rate. Supervised by fully qualified senior members of their team, trainees offer hair & beauty treatments. Prices range from £4.50 for a wash & blow dry, a wet cut is £5.50, cut & blow dry £8.50 and £2 for a moisturising treatment. They offer a range of temporary, semi-permanent and permanent colours ranging from £6.50 to £37. They also run a beauty salon offering many treatments including manicures, pedicures, facials and spray tans. Trainee rates range from £3 for an eyebrow shape to £15 for more extensive treatments.

So you can grab yourself a bargain and feel all self-righteous that you are helping the next up and coming hair & beauty professionals on their way to future success!

So I’ll let you go off and get yourself red carpet ready before you head out to paint the town blue & amber (couldn’t resist a Shrewsbury town F.C reference there...if you are going to be a Shrewsbury town resident for a while you should suffer with the town!)

Have fun and I will keep my eyes peeled for the pick of the best bargains!”
