Ewan Ceney is the technician for the Musical Theatre BA here at University Centre Shrewsbury.

What is a typical day at work for you?

Honestly, my job here working in the Musical Theatre team is so diverse, I don’t really have a ‘typical day’. Sure there are some little rituals that I have, like getting my morning coffee from Stop café (they do the BEST coffee), but no two days are alike! One day I will be demonstrating correct use of PA & lighting equipment in the technical skills sessions, the next I’ll be cataloguing all of the amazing equipment that we have available in our department and the next I’ll be coerced by the students into taking part in the squat challenge.

What are your favourite things about your job?

The students, my colleagues and the view out of our office window.

What has been your proudest moment whilst working at the university?

Watching our first cohort smash their technical skills assessment.

What is the best thing about the course?

The energy that everybody has!

If you could have a superpower what would you choose?

The ability to turn water into wine…

What might people not know about you?

In my spare time, I play guitar in a funk, soul and Motown band.

What is the best piece of advice that you could give to a student?

Make the most of every good opportunity you get.
