Going to University is an exciting time, packed full of life-changing experiences and great memories.  To ensure your University experience is unforgettable for all the right reasons, we have a fantastic range of staff and services that you can access at any point during your time at Shrewsbury.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of the friendly faces you’ll see around University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) and finding out exactly what they do!

First up, we have Fi Iddon, who is our Chaplain here at UCS.

What is a typical day at work for you?

“I work part-time at the University, and the rest of the week at a local church. I’m generally around UCS for a couple of hours on both Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Sometimes I’m joined by my colleague Tim, too.”

What is your favourite part of your job?

“Talking to students. I love a good natter!”

What has been your proudest moment whilst working at the University?

“Although I wasn’t born in Shrewsbury, I’ve lived here longer than anywhere else and I’m really proud of the positive impact that the University is having on my adopted hometown.”

What can the Chaplaincy offer students?

“A listening ear, friendship, a good laugh, a cry, a cuppa, no judgement, space, peace, a chance to pray or be prayed for if you would like it. We are here for students of any faith or none.”

Have you seen anything funny or surprising while working at the University?

“My favourite moment was finding Chris, who I’d not seen for years, in Stop Cafe.  Make sure you ask him about his pirate past!”

Choose a movie title for the story of your life.

“A Comedy of Errors.”

If you could have a superpower what would you choose?

“Definitely flying. Though, to be honest, I’d settle for remembering all my passwords the first time!”

What makes University Centre Shrewsbury unique?

“The wonderful people!”
