If you haven’t attended a virtual event before, don’t worry, this blog will tell you everything you need to know and what to expect.

Our Undergraduate Virtual Open Days are taking place on Saturday 10th October, Saturday 7th November, and Saturday 5th December 2020, from 12pm to 4pm. and you can register for your place here.

Know where to go

We don’t want you to miss out on anything important in our Virtual Open Day. That’s why we’ve highlighted the key locations you’ll want to make the most of below.

Our Courses

This is where you can find out information about all the different courses we offer at University Centre Shrewsbury. Our courses will be split into the relevant departments so if you’re unsure which department your course sits in, you can head to our ‘Help Desk’ on the homepage and there will be someone on a live chat who will be more than happy to help you. Once you’re in the right department’s booth, there will be videos, course leaflets, and a range of useful links to provide you with more information – plus, you even get the opportunity to join a live chat with the lecturers and ask them any questions you may have.

Lecture Hall

Just like at a normal Open Day, there will be a variety of different talks available to you. We’re aware that at a physical event, you’d normally attend a Welcome Talk, a subject specific talk as well as various presentations from our different support services at the University. Well, don’t worry, we’ve decided to put all of these talks in one place as part of our virtual events, so you can look through and watch the ones you’re interested in. These will be available for you to access at any point throughout the Virtual Open Day.

Student Services

Do make sure you check out our Student Services area, as there will be lots going on! Here, you will be able to find out more about our Students’ Union, our societies, and the facilities that we have available to our students. You can also find out information about our Study Abroad and Work Based Learning opportunities, ideal if you’re wanting to boost your CV and gain practical experience. It’s also worthwhile noting that this location is where you can access advice and guidance about accommodation, admissions and finance. You will also be able to find out more about the different types of support we offer our students at University Centre Shrewsbury, ranging from academic support with our study skills advisors, to how we support our students’ mental health and wellbeing.

International

If you’re an International student interested in studying at University Centre Shrewsbury, this area will have information about the international admissions process, finance options and accommodation. We will also be providing information about making visa applications, as well as planning your induction and arrival at the University.

Chat to Students

This area will be populated with our current students, giving you the opportunity to talk to them and ask them any questions you may have. They will be able to give you more of an idea of what it is like to be a University Centre Shrewsbury student, as well as being able to offer more information on the town, our campus, and their experience with our academics.

Resources

In this area, you will be able to download a range of useful documents and add them to your bag. The beauty of this is that you don’t have to read everything there and then, it’s designed so you can take a look at them all later.

Help Desk

Don’t worry if you can’t find what you’re looking for, our friendly team on our Help Desk are there to point you in the right direction.

Don’t miss out on…

Course Talk

Our course talks are a great way to find out more about the degree you’re interested in. Plus, you’ll also be able find out more about the Programme Leader, the opportunities available to you on the course like exciting placement opportunities or even the chance to study abroad, and what career options will be open to you.

Meetings

Some of our academic departments and student services have set up Meetings to run during the Open Day. These are chats that will cover particular topics, so we suggest that you take a look if there are any Meetings running for the course/s you’re interested in when you log in to the Virtual Open Day. For course-specific Meetings, you can do this by going to the Our Courses area and selecting the department the course sits in. If you’re not sure which is the correct department, have a look at our list here or just go to the Helpdesk on the day and ask a member of staff. Once you’re in a department area, if you see a ‘Meetings’ icon, click on this to view the list of Meetings available for you to book on to. For meetings that are specific to our Student Services, go to the Student Services area, select which section you’re interested in, for example, Admissions, and you’ll be able to see if there are any Meetings going ahead. If you do see a Meeting you’d like to attend, don’t forget to click ‘Book’ to save your space. If there aren’t any Meetings running in the area or course you’d like to know more about– don’t worry. You can use the Live Chat to find out any information you’d like to know or any topics you’d like to discuss.

Remember…

Your Bag

Throughout the Virtual Open Day, you’ll be able to add different items to your bag for you to look through later. These could include course leaflets, accommodation or finance information, as well as important documents about the student support services at the University. You are able to choose whatever you would like to add to your bag – and you can add as much as you like because you won’t have to carry it!
