If you’re considering studying Health and Exercise Science at University Centre Shrewsbury, our upcoming Open Day is a great way to find out more. Ahead of the day itself, lecturer Sue Taylor shares her thoughts on Open Day and life at UCS.

What are your tips for attending an Open Day?

“Whichever university you are visiting make sure you go along, get a feel for the place, see the facilities and ask lots of questions as you need to make sure you will be happy spending the next three years studying there. If you are happy then you will perform at your best.”

What can people find out about the course on an Open Day?

“During an Open Day you will get to find out all about the degree and the modules that make up the course in much more detail than you can see on the website or prospectus. We explain about the additional professional qualifications you can get whilst on the course and what you can do with these qualifications. You get to meet the people that will be teaching you and see the facilities and equipment you will be using daily. You will also get the opportunity to see the great facilities we have for students at UCS.”

What is your favourite part of your job?

“I really enjoy meeting students on the first day and over the course of the next three years watching them grow and develop and go on to be successful in their chosen career.”

What has been your proudest moment whilst working at the University?

“Seeing the first cohort of students graduate, all with first class honours.”

What makes University Centre Shrewsbury unique?

“UCS is very unique, it is a small and friendly place, where students really are at the core of everything we do. The small class sizes mean that as a member of staff I can spend lots of time with students ensuring that they achieve or even exceed their potential. Students at UCS get the chance to be involved in so much more on top of their degree (working on research projects, events and working out in the community which in larger universities would be the preserve of postgraduate students). Our students leave UCS with a degree and lots of hands-on experience, which enhances their employability chances.”

Why should people come to an Open Day?

“The Open Day will give you chance to get a real feel for the unique nature of UCS, you can meet our student-centred staff and see first-hand what we have to offer.”

Our Open Day is taking place Saturday 20th October. You can book your place here.
