Our Open Day is just around the corner, so we caught up with the Sport Management Department to get their thoughts on why you should come along.

What are your tips for attending an Open Day?

“Have a wander around the town before turning up at the University – visit the town centre, get a feel for the quirky and friendly mix of old and new, grab a coffee and something nice to eat in one of the many little shops up and down the streets – it’s a five minute walk away from Campus and you’ll have a much clearer idea about the environment of the university by the time you get here.

Once you’re here, make sure you’ve got some questions prepared, but also that you’ve done a bit of background research, because you’ll probably be asked why you want to study Sport Management, which aspects of the subject really interest you and to talk a little about your background – we’re as interested in learning about you as you are about us!”

What is your favourite part of your job?

“The best bit of my job is always getting to know the students, understanding their motivations and helping them to set and reach their own goals. That’s why I do it!”

What has been your proudest moment whilst working at the University?

“That would be getting an inspection copy of a book I had contributed to writing – and knowing that it will be on reading lists and used by my students – really making teaching research-led.”

What makes University Centre Shrewsbury unique?

“The eclectic mix of people here – both staff and students – working closely with each other but in very different academic fields.  You don’t get that at many other universities.”

Why should people come to an Open Day?

“It is a cliché, but University Centre Shrewsbury really is a bit different, and you won’t know if it’s for you or not unless you’ve visited us.  Besides which, there are some great eateries in the town which are worth visiting anyway!”

Our Open Day is taking place Saturday 19th October. You can book your place here.
