Could you tell us your age and where you are from?

20 and Telford.

Why did you decide to study at UCS?

I visited lots of universities offering English courses but UCS is the one that interested me the most. It covered a range of different texts that I had already read and loved. I also wanted to stay close to home so I didn’t have to leave my dog!

Why did you choose to study your course?

English is the only thing that has ever appealed to me. When I was younger I wanted to be a zoo keeper but soon realised that I was rubbish at Biology (or any kind of science). I love reading and I really enjoy learning about new techniques in literature.

What is the best thing about your course?

Definitely the books we study - this year we have read so many amazing ones, such as The Silence of the Lambs, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone and Emma!

Have you seen anything funny or surprising in Shrewsbury?

Shrewsbury is a really quirky place. When I’m studying, I usually find myself people watching most of the day!

What are your plans and hopes for the future?

I hope to get a job in media or journalism. We had a careers module on our course this year and it was really useful to get an insight into the industry.

Can you tell us a little about how important it is to make the most of the opportunities that are provided here for students – both within and outside the University in Shrewsbury?

There are plenty of opportunities being thrown to you at UCS, such as getting involved with the Student Union! These will be really helpful to put on your CV in the future and, hopefully, create more opportunities for you. Whilst you’re at University you should take advantage of everything happening around you!

Any particular highlights from your time here so far?

I really enjoyed visiting BBC Radio Shropshire. We got to watch Jim Hawkins present one of his shows!

If you could have a superpower what would you choose?

I think I’d choose flying. It would be much easier (and cheaper) to have a quick weekend away in Paris.

What might people not know about you?

I love photography. Whenever I go out with my friends I am always snapping photos.

What is the best piece of advice that you could give to a student?

Keep a diary planner - I am a really forgetful person, so this is the only way I remember to complete all my tasks for a lecture.

What makes University Centre Shrewsbury unique?

The location! It is such a beautiful place with plenty of lovely, independent cafes to enjoy and places to walk.
