One of the many fantastic things about living and studying in Shrewsbury is the amazing amount of events and festivals that take place in the town each year.
This summer sees Quarry Park once again host the eagerly anticipated, and award-winning, Shrewsbury Food Festival with over 200 local food and drink exhibitors from across the region – as well as plenty of delicious free tasters!
As summer begins, the whole town will be gearing up to host an array of events, from street buskers to jazz networks, budding artists to big name acts. The Quarry will also play host to the colourful blooms of the world’s oldest Flower Show, plus the West Mid Showground is jam-packed with fantastic folk tunes courtesy of Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
For nautical fun, the River Severn will also be playing host to the Coracle Race and the Dragon Boat Race. While those looking for a good giggle will find plenty to tickle their funny bone at Shrewsbury International Comedy Festival.
Luckily for our BA Events and Festivals Management students, Shrewsbury and Shropshire’s love of sunshine and good times means the event and festival calendar is bursting at the seams with everything from science and nature, cartoons and flowers, boats and music. These are perfect grounds for work experience opportunities, as well as building valuable business contacts in the area.
Our BA in Events and Festivals Management is keen to keep things just as dynamic and exciting as the event scene in Shrewsbury. We offer the opportunity for hands-on, practical and experiential learning throughout the course, which is supported by the understanding and appreciation of theoretical perspectives that make the industry as vibrant and active as it is today.
At University Centre Shrewsbury, we are always developing connections with events and festival organisations such as Shropshire Festivals in order to help students to find opportunities to volunteer or work at live events. We also support our students in finding a placement during their five-week Work Based Learning opportunity at the end of the second year.
Our course is designed to provide a wide range of skills and knowledge related to the events and festival industry, and to explore and engage with the opportunities it can create.
