Feeling like you have no energy? Does walking up the stairs even feel strenuous at the moment? Well you’re not alone. Spending a large amount of time indoors can really affect our energy levels and our ability to feel motivated. That’s why we decided to catch up with Shaney to ask how she’s been keeping active.

“Hello lovely Shrewdents!

Are you dancing? Because I’m asking!

Over the last few weeks, various dancers have been holding virtual dance classes across social media. These are a bit of fun and an excellent way to get your heart rate up if you’re feeling a bit lazy. It’s time to put on your dancing shoes!

Dance with Dianne

First up, Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell is holding morning dance classes with guest appearances from her boyfriend and dance partner, Joe Sugg. These are my personal favourites as they are so upbeat! So far, she has covered a Beyonce inspired ‘Single Ladies’ routine, salsa, hip-hop and samba. She has even paired with Ashley Roberts for a Pussycat Dolls routine. It’s all done with humour and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Search @diannebuswell on Instagram to give it a go!

Subscribe to Diversity

Now is the time to prove ‘You’ve Got Talent!’. Diversity have announced they are granting free access to all of their routines online until May 1st. With a new routine added each week, normally this subscription costs £16 a month – what better excuse to give it a go and showcase your skills! You can find all their routines here.

Get the family involved with Gorka

Strictly Come Dancing’s Gorka Marquez has been uploading dance routines at around 5pm each day. Don’t worry if you miss one, his routines are on his social media so you can catch up when you’re ready. He often dances with his partner and ex-Strictly contestant, Gemma Atkinson, their baby and dogs (quite the crowded dance floor!). Why not try and get your own family involved? Find @gorka_marquez on Instagram to get started.

Hauer Power

If dancing isn’t your thing but you’re desperate to get moving, Strictly’s much loved Karen Hauer is hosting home workout sessions every morning at 10am. Her Hauer Power sessions are designed to get your blood pumping and body moving! However, if you’re looking for something more chilled, join her as she calms things down at 6pm every evening with her live yoga and stretch sessions. @karenhauer is hosting these on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

Something for the children (or maybe you!)

Oti Mabuse and her dancer husband, Marius Lepure, are also leading you around your (dance) floor with some fabulous routines, including one where she is dressed as Mary Poppins! Although that one was definitely aimed at children, it didn’t stop me and my friend (virtually) enjoying it together! Why not call a friend and join in? Adulthood is overrated anyway. Find @otimabuse on Instagram.

Well I don’t want to keep you from the dance floor - where’s that 10 paddle when you need it?!

Until next time, keeeeep dancing!”

We’ve loved hearing how Shaney has spiced up her normal exercise routine and would love to see some of your ideas over on our University Instagram. Find us at @ucshrewsbury and feel free to tag us if you have a go!

Better still, if you love dancing, you'll probably be interested in the Musical Theatre course we offer here at UCS.
