The accommodation application window opens Monday 1st April and will close on Monday 24th June 2019. Remember that applications are not taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, so if we do receive your application after this date then don’t worry, we will still process it. Just bear in mind that those received before the deadline will take priority.
If you choose University Centre Shrewsbury as your Firm or Insurance choice, you will receive information through the post about our online application process. As soon as you’ve received this, you can then start to apply.
We have tried to make the process as easy as possible, and have taken the opportunity to answer some of the most common accommodation questions people may have.
1. How do I pick my accommodation?
We’ve made life really easy when it comes to choosing accommodation at Shrewsbury. We have two options; either a studio apartment or a single cluster room.
The accommodation at Shrewsbury is located over two conveniently located town centre sites - The Tannery and Mardol House. Comprising of a mix of cluster accommodation consisting of a group of single rooms with en suite and access to a shared kitchen and living space or self-contained studio apartments, the accommodation at Shrewsbury has an option for everyone. Both halls of residence also provide laundrette facilities and CCTV monitored outdoor bike racks.
All accommodation is self-catered and your rent includes all utility bills, maintenance and WiFi access. The accommodation is safe and secure with a 24-hour concierge service covering both sites – plus if you need any help, there’s also an Assistant Residential Tutor on hand to talk to.
2. What’s included in the different room types?
Studio apartments comprise of an en-suite bathroom, including a washbasin, toilet and shower. Within your studio you’ll have the usual bedroom furniture as well as a kitchenette containing a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. You’ll also have access to a fully fitted kitchen and dining area, shared with the other studio apartments, where you’ll have extra fridge and freezer space and access to ovens and hobs, so you can really hone those culinary skills.
Cluster single rooms comprise of an en-suite bathroom, including a washbasin, toilet and shower. You’ll have access to a shared dining area and a fully fitted kitchen, shared with only five other residents, with a combined fridge freezer, oven and hob, microwave, kettle and toaster. Your room will also include a wardrobe, bedside cabinet, study desk and bookcase.
3. What are the contract lengths?
All the accommodation contracts are 41 weeks in length, which means you won’t have to vacate your room during the holidays.
4. How do I apply?
When you’re ready to begin your application, you should log in to PASS, our Pre-Arrival Student Site. Your username for PASS is your student number. Your student number can be found on the letter we’ll be sending out to you in the post. Your password is your date of birth in the format: CheYYYYMMDD. So, if your date of birth is 01/02/1999, your password would be Che19990201.
5. What happens after my application is sent in?
For anyone holding a conditional offer, once you’ve submitted your application, we will email you after the closing date to confirm that a room has been reserved for you.
Once your academic results are known, our accommodation partner, Shropshire Council, will get in touch as soon as possible after the A-level results day on Thursday 15th August 2019 to let you know your room allocation.
For students that are holding an Unconditional Firm offer, we will inform you of the actual room you have been allocated after the application deadline has passed.
For those students that have placed University Centre Shrewsbury as their Insurance Choice, we do advise that you apply for accommodation during the application window. Please note that those who have selected Shrewsbury as their first choice will have priority during the allocation process.
For us, no deposit is required at the application stage, and if you get the grades required for your firm choice university, we will not send an offer of accommodation to you.
In order to secure your accommodation at University Centre Shrewsbury, you will need to agree to the contractual terms and conditions online within three working days of receiving it and make arrangements to pay a deposit of £250.
6. How is the rent paid?
Our accommodation partner, Shropshire Council, will take three instalments from you to cover the rent, one at the start of each term. So if your room is £140.00 per week, and the term is ten weeks, they’ll take £1,400.00 in the first week of term to cover the rent.
Your deposit will be retained until the end of their lease and it will be refunded provided the licence fee has been paid in full and the room is left in a satisfactory condition.
7. What if I miss the application deadline?
If you miss your application deadline you are still able to apply; however, your application will not be given the same priority as those that applied within the time frame. In addition, we will be unable to confirm your room until all other allocations have been placed. Likewise, applicants applying for accommodation through Clearing will be allocated a room in partnership accommodation, subject to availability.
