The lecturers helped immensely, I wouldn’t be who I am now without their help, approach and teaching - from lab to lecture hall and even in my personal life.

Despite having some challenges along the way, Jacob was able to graduate with a 2:1 and is now studying a Masters in Medical Parasitology at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Jacob attributes a great deal of his success to the support of the staff and larger community at University Centre Shrewsbury.

“I decided to study at University Centre Shrewsbury after meeting with the lecturers at an Open Day. The staff are amazing people with lots of experience, plus they use awesome and intriguing ways to teach and help us students. The small class size comparable to tutorials was key as I was not looking for a big city experience.

I had a few hit and miss assessments and exams, however, through the lecturers’ help and personal academic tutor meetings I grew my confidence and learned what I needed to succeed. I worked hard, listened to my lecturers and did my best. I graduated with a 2:1 and got accepted to both Manchester University to do an MSc Medical Microbiology and, more to my surprise, even my long shot application to the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to study a MSc Medical Parasitology.

The lecturers helped immensely, I wouldn’t be who I am now without their help, approach and teaching - from lab to lecture hall and even in my personal life. I am immensely thankful to all my lecturers and the supporting staff for the amazing three years and for their help with my personal growth.

Going to University Centre Shrewsbury was the best decision of my life and I don’t have a single regret. UCS has a small, welcoming family atmosphere that transforms all your fears into strengths and gives you the self-fortitude to follow your dreams. Shrewsbury is also a beautiful town with an amazing park. In my opinion it is the best place for an 18-year-old novice at life to start becoming an adult.”
