Simone

Being a mature, international student Simone found that UCS provided her with the perfect environment for University life – going onto receive First Class Honours, make new friends and get her first job.

I’ve always been fascinated by psychology because of my own past experiences. In addition, I wanted to pursue a career that revolves around helping people, and I felt that this degree would allow me to reach those career aspirations. As a mature student entering into higher education I was worried I may not fit in with younger learners and that I would get lost in a sea of students. Therefore, UCS seemed like an ideal option as there are smaller groups of students, which truly allows you to become more involved in each and every lesson - not to mention the fact that I had a chance at remembering everyone’s name!

Opportunity

Had I not utilised some of the opportunities which were sent my way, I probably wouldn’t have achieved my first, nor would I have learned as much as I did. I also made some great friends in the process which is a massive plus. I feel great, I worked hard to reach a First overall for my degree and I feel as though I truly got the most out of the university experience while I was there.

A personalised Experience

My biggest highlight is how much my lecturers cared. They really do try their best in encouraging you and challenging you to reach your best potential on the course. UCS helped me get my first job as an MDT coordinator for skin cancer patients by offering a range of opportunities to learn about the real world. In addition, the staff employed by the university nurtured my confidence and employability so that I could enter the working world confidently. To have librarians who remember your name, a receptionist who can ask how that thing went you mentioned last time. Lecturers who don’t simply see you as another number in a large theatre. I think that UCS offers a university experience that is more personal to the student.
